Physical monitoring technology is all the rage and one of the biggest sellers this Christmas. The convenience, the calculation, the inspiration all combine to boost their popularity but some folks are fit to be tied over Fitbit.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Fitbit claiming that its heart rate monitoring technology -- called PurePulse -- is inaccurate, according to The Verge.

The PurePulse technology is in Fitbit's Charge HR and Surge devices, as well as its newly announced Blaze smartwatch. The suit charges that three different plaintiffs said they bought Fitbit devices because of the claim that they accurately track heart rates, but they found that their counts were wrong.

One of the plaintiffs, for example, had a trainer manually count her heart rate during a workout and found it was 160 beats per minute, while her Fitbit Charge HR said it was only 82 beats per minute. The suit also charges that a cardiologist who used an electrocardiogram machine to compare results found Fitbit’s heart rate sensor consistently reported inaccurate results. Fitbit says they stand by their technology.
