Beginning Thursday the Yakima School District is inviting police officers, paramedics and firefighters to enjoy breakfast and lunch at district schools. It's part of school safety program funded 100% by food service company Sodexo Incorporated. District spokeswoman Kirsten Fitterer says the new program is designed to "further the relationship between the staff students and first responders as well as get them familiar with our schools."
Fitterer says they've invited Yakima Police and Union Gap Police Department Officers, Yakima Firefighters and Yakima Paramedics to have breakfast or lunch at schools. The costs will be covered by the district food service company Sodexo.

The Yakima School District already employs Yakima Police Department officers as their School Resource Officers. They are onsite daily at the high schools and middle schools and on-call for the elementary schools.
