It is the beginning of a tough week for firefighters in the Yakima Valley.

Even though fireworks are banned in the city of Yakima and the unincorporated areas of the county, firefighters know fireworks are available on the Yakama reservation and other areas.

Capt. Tom Schneider of the Yakima Fire Department says, “We’re just encouraging people to attend the public fireworks display at State Fair Park on Friday and remember that fireworks are banned in Yakima.”

Schneider says dry conditions coupled with fireworks could result in a big blaze.

A number of cities in the valley allow the sale and use of fireworks along with the Yakama reservation, which means plenty of people have access to fireworks. The cities of Moxee, Granger, Mabton and Zillah allow the sale and use of fireworks.

Fireworks are banned in all the other cities, including the city of Yakima.
