Nothing says autumn like the smell of the smoke and the crackle of the fireplace on those cool October nights.  If you haven’t stacked enough wood for the season ahead you still have a little more time.Personal-use firewood cutting on the Naches Ranger District is being extended for another two weeks through Sunday, October 19.

K.C. Briggs, Acting District Ranger says because of Industrial Fire Precaution Levels (IFPL) that restricted woodcutting in September it was important to give the community an extra two weeks to gather firewood for home use.

Those wishing to cut firewood can purchase a permit from the Naches Ranger District Office.  The minimum permit purchase is 4 cords (20$) and the maximum is 12 cords (60$).  Maps for designated firewood cutting areas accompany the permit.  The public is encouraged to evaluate conditions when cutting firewood in the fall when road and soil conditions become soggy and saturated.
