Two fires in the lower Yakima valley on Wednesday kept fire crews busy in the hot summer sun. The fires along I-82 near Wapato and Toppenish impacted traffic as firefighters doused flames. Firefighters from Fire District Five responded to the flames at about 2:00 p.m. Wednesday. Last night the fires ranged in size from 12 to 40 acres and were more than 20 percent contained. Fire crews worked overnight to fully douse the flames. The cause of the fires remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
