YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — Firefighters have fully contained a wildfire that burned across a square mile near Ellensburg.

The fire was reported at about midnight Wednesday and blackened an estimated 700 acres before firefighters contained it Thursday.

Washington Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman Linda Hazlett says evacuation orders there have been lifted.

Meanwhile, firefighters in south-central Washington continue to fight a 1,500-acre blaze burning north of White Salmon near the Columbia River Gorge.

Residents of 30 homes there have been evacuated, and another 450 homes could be threatened if the fire grows.
