Lots of smoke and flames were present in West Valley Saturday afternoon. A home was heavily damaged and a barn destroyed after a fire ripped through the Apple Blossom subdivision near south 64 and Occidental Avenue. Firefighters were alerted at about 2:30 p.m. The flames spread from a barn to a home next door. Firefighters say no one was hurt. The fire also damaged cars and other surrounding homes from heat and flying embers. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Neighbors are relieved that the fire was contained early and didn't burn any other homes.
