4:40 a.m. A news release from the Yakima Fire Department says East Valley Fire Department was dispatched to a brush fire near the river at Hartford Road. The initial responding East Valley crew determined the fire to be on the Yakima side of the river and requested a dispatch for resources from Yakima Fire Department. The news release says crews from the Yakima Fire Department found a wildland fire along the Yakima River Greenway path. The fire, in thick overgrown fuels, high winds, and not to mention it was dark outside, made it difficult for crews to access.
The fire spread to nearly 5 acres before crews were able to get a containment line around it. The YFD Incident Commander, requested Yakima Police Department to assist with going down river/ down wind to evacuate any homeless encampments they could find.
The Greenway was closed from Rotary Lake to Sarge Hubbard park during the operation.

No firefighters were injured at this incident.
