The holidays will be a little tougher for a Yakima family whose home was severely damaged in a fire Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters say the fire on South 8th Street likely started from some faulty electrical wiring near a ceiling fan. The owner of the home and his son were watching TV Thursday afternoon when their family dog started barking and went to the back of the house. The seven-year-old followed the dog and saw flames on the ceiling. Smoke detectors went off and the family was able to get out safely.

Firefighters were on scene moments later and had the fire under control in under 10 minutes but it was already too late to save this family's Christmas. The home was severely damaged.

The Yakima Fire Department estimates the damages at $70,000. The Salvation Army has agreed to help this family this Christmas.
