With Van Halen kicking off a summer tour in the Northwest this year, an old debate rages on. Who's better: David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar?

Originally formed in 1972 as the Mammoths, Van Halen hit the big time in the 1980s to become one of the biggest rock bands of all time. David Lee Roth was the lead singer from 1974 to 1985, when the group recorded hits like "Panama," "Hot For Teacher" and their biggest hit ever, "Jump."

Veteran rocker Sammy Hagar joined the band in 1985, bringing a different sound and musicality. With Hagar, Van Halen recorded hits like "Can't Stop Loving You," "Dreams" and "Why Can't This Be Love."

Van Halen has garnered millions of fans through the years, but an interesting divide has formed among them. One that raises passions and sometimes more.

Which lead singer made Van Halen the better band?

Here at Newstalk KIT, Lance Tormey is a David Lee Roth Fan, while Brian Teegarden backs Sammy Hagar.
