LOS ANGELES (AP) — Aadlen (A-Adlen) Brothers Auto Wrecking is more than just a giant Los Angeles junkyard. The 26 acres of burned out, smashed-up, rusted automobiles is also a living, breathing monument to LA pop culture.

And now it's destined for the dustbin of history itself. After serving as the film site for more than 200 movies, TV shows, commercials and music videos, the 54-year-old hybrid junkyard-Hollywood backlot is closing New Year's Eve.

Owner Nathan Adlen is clearing out nearly a half-century of memorabilia, including cars used in the "RoboCop 3" and "Universal Soldier" movies. A giant mechanical "Jaws" shark from a studio backlot tour must also go.

With prices for scrap iron having fallen, Adlen says there isn't the money in big junkyards there once was.
