YAKIMA, Wash. – One person is dead and another is hospitalized this morning after a fire at a home off Birchfield Road this morning.

An investigation has begun, but most details remain scant this morning. The fire was reported at 5:54 a.m. at 1603 Birchfield Road east of Yakima. Except for a black smoke stain beneath the eves, there was little visible evidence of a fire from outside the one-story home.

There was no immediate information on the deceased or the person taken to a local hospital.

Investigators are arriving at the scene of a house fire where the body of one person was found Thursday morning. A second person from the home on Birchfield Road has been hospitalized.

Firefighters say they arrived to find flames coming thru the roof, but were able to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes of their arrival.

The fire was reported by a passerby at 5: 54 a.m. and the first fire units from stations in East Valley, Gleed, Yakima and the U.S. Army’s Yakima Training Center arrived on the scene within seven minutes. At least a half dozen fire units remain on scene.
