Yakima Police say one man is dead after a crash caused by a possible drunken driver early Sunday morning.

Police were called to the 1500 block of East Beech Street at 12:57 a.m. Sunday to respond to a single-vehicle crash. When officers arrived they found that a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu had struck a large tree. The vehicle had been eastbound on East Beech Street when it drifted to the north side of the road and hit the tree.

A 22-year-old male passenger, who was seated behind the driver, was ejected and died at the scene of the crash. The 20-year-old male driver was taken to a Yakima hospital with serious injuries.

Another 22-year-old male passenger, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, escaped with minor injuries.

Police say a preliminary investigation indicated that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in this crash.
