New Year' Eve is this Saturday night, and local and state authorities will be out in force looking for drunk and/or drugged drivers.

Police agencies across the state are participating in extra patrols through Jan. 1.

Darrin Grondel, director of the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, says many drivers are now mixing alcohol and drugs. He says officers are trained to spot drivers on both intoxicants.

Grondel says if you do plan to party, get a designated driver this New Year's Eve to avoid an arrest or a tragic crash.
