TRI-CITIES, Wash. (AP) — The former director of the Downtown Pasco Development Authority who admitted to embezzling more than $90,000 from the agency has been sentenced to one year in prison.

The Tri-City Herald reports  that Michael Goins was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to theft as part of a plea deal.

Prosecutor Shawn Sant says Goins could face additional charges if a state audit reveals he stole more than $250,000. A report from the auditor's office is expected in June.

Goins has admitted to using money from the taxpayer-funded Pasco nonprofit to pay for personal expenses from July 2013 to December 2015.

He was fired from the agency in December after his arrest.

Goins apologized for his actions in court Tuesday, saying he will use the experience to make better decisions.
