Every time there is a major fire in East Valley, many firefighters are on the scene but some are volunteers. And Today the department is hoping for more volunteers. Chief Mike Riel says volunteers provide essential core support to the department when it comes to battling major fires. He says they're looking for people who want to help the community. "People who are willing to get up in the middle of the night and early mornings and help that person in need or respond to that fire call." The volunteers are on-call to augment the work firefighters need to do when there's a potentially devastating fire. The East Valley Fire Departments annual volunteer academy starts at the end of July. Applications are available at the station at 2003 Beaudry Road. They're looking for both men and women who are 18-years-old and live within the fire district of Terrace Heights and Moxee.
