Sunday transit service in Yakima and the Yakima/Ellensburg commuter bus service are expected to be eliminated during the Yakima City Council meeting Tuesday.

City Manager Tony O'Rourke says both have been funded by state grants that are running out in April and July and the city does not have the money to fill the hole.

O'Rourke says he is hoping a private company can continue the commuter service since it has become so popular with students attending Central Washington University.

Certainly the prices would rise since the service is being heavily subsidized now but hopefully there’s a private investor out there who can help meet that need.

O'Rourke says funding for the Sunday transit service ends on April 13 and the state funding for the commuter service ends July 1.
