Has it really been 45 years since the first Earth Day?  I remember it as a pretty big deal back then and for many it still is. April 22 is the official day, but you can celebrate Saturday the 18th with the Cowiche Canyon Conservancy’s Earth Day Walk from 10 a.m. to noon at the Weikel Road trailhead.

A conservancy press release says there will be “talks and demonstrations by experts on the native plants, life in the creek, butterflies and geology of this unique shrub-steppe habitat stationed along the Cowiche Canyon trail. Native plants and spring flowers will be labeled for a fun learning experience at all levels.”

You’re encouraged to bring binoculars and cameras, wear sturdy shoes and outdoor clothes and be prepared for any weather.

If all this sounds like a great free opportunity for you and your family, simply head west on Summitview Avenue to Weikel Road, take a sharp right, then turn right again at the bottom of the hill into the marked parking area.
