An accident early Sunday morning split a car in two and sent two people to the hospital on West Yakima Avenue.

Yakima Police say a 2006 Nissan Maxima had been traveling west on Yakima Avenue when the driver lost control. The vehicle drifted across the road and struck several trees at approximately 2 a.m. The collision resulted in the car being broken into two pieces. Both pieces of the car continued rolling briefly before stopping in front of a business near the 14th and West Yakima avenues.

The car was driven by a 22-year-old female. A 35-year-old male passenger was ejected from the vehicle during the accident. Both were treated at a hospital.

Yakima Police believe speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.

The Traffic Division is currently investigating the accident.
