When your recent high school grad heads off to college this fall there's a disturbing and dangerous campus trend that they need to be warned about. Shockingly it combines eating disorders with alcohol abuse and it's more common than many people realize according to a report in USA TODAY.

The behavior has the mash up name of "drunkorexia."  USA Today says students skip meals or exercise intensely before drinking, or deliberately purge during or afterward with the idea of cutting down on calories and increasing the buzz.

A new University of Houston survey spoke with nearly 12-hundred students who had at least one bout of heavy drinking in the previous month and  found that 80 percent had engaged in at least one behavior linked to "drunkorexia.

And ladies, misery loves company , for while women are generally at greater risk for eating disorders, men were found to be just as --if not more-- likely to engage in these behaviors.

So parents, one more topic on which to have "the talk" before your young adult heads off to college.
