Downtown Yakima Will Shine a Little Brighter

The downtown Yakima lighting project is now in the next phase. New lights are being put on trees and side streets. They will be added from Eighth Street to Front Street. KIMA Action News reports more than 100 trees will have lights. They will be LEDs, which will last longer than the old ones. Workers from Senske volunteered to put up them up. The project will cost $10,000 from the Downtown Yakima Business Improvement District.

"When it is dark and you see the lights on the trees, it gives you that feeling of festiveness and celebration so I think it is going to want to make people come down here and eat at the restaurants and visit local businesses," said Christopher Childers.

Yakima officials tell KIMA work on the lights should wrap up by the end of the week.
