Revitalizing Yakima's downtown with a new plaza has been on the City Council's agenda -- and now they will finally get to see some real possibilities.

The firm of Gustafson Guthrie Nichol will present several ideas to the council and the public on Tuesday. First will be at the council's 9 a.m. study session at City Hall. There will also be a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Seasons Performance Hall, 101 N. Naches Ave.

The design team has looked at two different areas for the plaza. One is the parking lot area behind the Olive Garden and across Third Street from the Capitol Theatre. The second is in the parking lot at Second Street and Staff Sgt. Pendleton Way.

The different concepts were intended to take input from more 1,400 online surveys submitted by Yakima residents.

The morning study session will also include the results of a parking survey by Carl Walker Inc.

Doors open for the public meeting at 6 and the city is encouraging early arrival by anyone interested in attending so that they can get seating and the meeting can start on time.
