Yakima will soon have a new dog park. Yakima Parks and Recreation spokesperson Jenise Sanders says the new park is being built in a large field on the south side of Wide Hollow Creek next to Randle Park on 48th Avenue. She says when it's finished it'll be an off-leash dog park where dogs can run free and owners can feel comfortable.

"Where dogs and pet owners can go to the same area as other people like them," she explains. "You know, sometimes you go to the park and you don't want to deal with a dog because you're not a dog person."

Construction is underway, and Sanders says plans include a large fence and a shelter inside the park for shade. Crews hope to have the park completed in late September.

Meantime, the city Parks and Recreation Department is taking donations to create more amenities at the park for dogs and owners. If you'd like to contribute, contact the city parks and recreation department at 575 6020.
