The European Food Safety Authority says glyphosate, which is the active ingredient in Monsanto weed killer, likely doesn’t cause cancer in humans. But EFSA did propose some new controls on residues in food. The ruling may mean that products containing glyphosate will have an easier time staying on the European market. The ruling comes after the International Agency for Research on Cancer said glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic to humans.” However, the Natural Resources Defense Council said the agency acted with blinders on.

USDA Deputy Ag Secretary Krysta Harden will lead a trade mission to Africa this week. The goal will be to expand U.S. export opportunities for food and agricultural products in that market. Over the past decade, U.S. agricultural exports have increased by 50 percent and totaled 2.3 billion in 2014. The mission includes 22 American companies and agricultural commodity trade associations representing a wide variety of products. The delegation will meet with potential customers from more than a dozen countries across sub-Saharan Africa.
