Developer Agrees to Donate Historic Brewhouse to City

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A developer wants to donate a historic brewhouse to a city south of Olympia.

The Olympian reports Tumwater Mayor Pete Kmet is expected to sign an agreement at a council meeting Tuesday that donates the 111-year-old brick structure while calling for the city to design and build public access.

The agreement with Falls Development LLC asks that the historic building be remodeled and preserved. A 2015 study estimates those costs at $5.6 million.

Trumwater will reimburse the developer up to $1 million for infrastructure improvements tied to the building's rehabilitation, like utilities and access roads.

People will be able to comment on the agreement during Tuesday night's meeting.

The city is working toward creating a craft brewing and distilling hub that provides jobs and contributes to the local economy.
