BRUSSELS (AP) — The Belgian capital Brussels is in lockdown after explosions today rocked the international airport and the subway system.

Belgium's prime minister says there "are many dead, many injured." Brussels transit says there are 15 dead and 55 wounded in the subway station attack alone.

Later reports place the toll at 31 dead, dozens injured.

Belgium has raised its terror alert to its highest level, diverting arriving planes and trains and ordering people to stay where they are. Airports across Europe have tightened security. Belgium's prime minister says, "what we feared has happened."
