The Davis High School Pirate Basketball Team, who won the Class 4A State Championship earlier this month in Tacoma, will be honored in a community celebration held Wednesday, March 28, at 7 p.m. in the high school’s gymnasium.

The Davis team, coached by Eli Juarez, finished 23-2 and capped a 17-game winning streak with a 48-42 triumph over Central Valley for the state title on March 3 in the Tacoma Dome.  The title was the school’s first in 47 years.  This year’s team was led by senior David Trimble who was named the state’s Class 4A Player of the Year.  The 1965 squad, coached by Larry Pryse and featuring future Washington State University hoop stars Ted Wierman and Lenny Allen, plus future WSU football star and Yakima School District principal Del Carmichael, will also be honored at the celebration.   Nahum Ray from 107.3 KFFM will emcee the event and Mayor Micah Cawley will be the guest speaker.
