Dave’s Diary:Job Hunters Note the Things Not to Say About Yourself
Despite Washington’s focus on immigration and gun control, the real concern for most Americans is the economy and jobs. If you are among the 7 percenters who don’t have a job or you are the parent of a kid who probably won’t be able to find a job…stay with me. We have advice from LinkedIn to help you stand out from the herd…in a good way!For starters, don’t describe yourself as “effective” or “motivated” and most of all, don’t say you’re “creative” even if you are. And the reason why is because virtually everyone says the same things, even if they aren’t! LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network, combed its 135 million member profiles to find the most overused buzzwords professionals in all industries use to describe themselves and their work.
For your avoidance consideration, do NOT say that you are:
- Extensive experience
- Track record
- Problem solving
- Communication skills
LinkedIn says to illustrate your unique professional accomplishments and experiences through concrete examples that showcase your skills and achievements.
