Dave’s Diary: U.S. Navy Unofficially Launched This Day in History

On the date in history –March 27, 1794  President George Washington ordered the construction of six frigates to counter attack the Barbary pirates of North Africa, who were harassing American merchant ships.  Marking the beginning of the US Navy. My father served in the Navy in WWII and managed to survive his troop transport being torpedoed by a Japanese sub. And speaking of subs, my son spent 5 years in the Navy serving in navigation on a nuclear attack submarine. He still works for the Navy as a civilian in computer science today so I have much respect and appreciation for the U.S. Navy….launched 219 years ago today! Me?  I can’t swim..I spent 3 years in the Army!
