Shot down if you will, to the fear of 100 million gun owners voting in the 2014 mid-term elections.

The bill was written in the wake of several high-profile tragedies including the school shooting in Newton and while certainly millions of Americans remain concerned about gun violence, significant opposition has popped up in response to the Democratic anti-gun hardliners and with an election coming in 2014 Reid figured that was one fire fight he didn’t want.

Sometimes it takes a self serving motivation for a senator to do the right thing.
