The John McAlister Crystal Apple Awards Program Committee is currently seeking nominations for the annual Crystal Apple Awards program.
Now in its 25th year, the committee honors the teaching profession as a whole by identifying a few of the many individuals in the Yakima School District (YSD) who positively impact the lives and futures of their students. Nominations are open to certificated YSD employees (teachers, principals, counselors, librarians, school psychologists, or directors with a teaching credential) and teams of teachers. Individuals nominated previously may be nominated again; previous honorees may not.
A limited number of recipients will receive $1,000 cash, a crystal apple and a certificate; up to 30 nominees will be presented with a certificate. Ceremonies are slated for Monday, May 7 at the Yakima Convention Center.
The Crystal Apple Awards are sponsored by many local businesses and
corporations. The committee, co-chaired by Dave Dion, RBC Wealth Management, and Pat McCarthy from Yakima Specialties, Inc., is composed of individuals who believe the community should express its awareness and appreciation for the hundreds of outstanding teachers in the Yakima Public Schools.
Members of the general public are invited to submit nominations. Forms are available through any Yakima Public School office or the district Community Relations Office. Deadline is Thursday, March 15. Call 573-7007.
