OSO (AP) -- The rebuilding of a section of the Whitehorse Trail in Snohomish County that was destroyed in the Oso mudslide has been delayed.

Officials say they need additional time for planning and permitting and are keeping a close eye on water flow along the trail.

The Daily Herald reports (http://is.gd/3XBRL2 ) Snohomish County originally had planned to rebuild the mile-long segment of this popular trail in summer 2015. But after talking to state and federal officials in November, parks and recreation director Tom Teigen says it become clear that they needed more time.

The new schedule would have them finish their planning in 2015 and rebuild the trail in summer 2016. Part of the effort would include building new culverts to help manage water flow in the area. There have been multiple washouts along the trail.
