DEER PARK  (AP) — A Deer Park couple has been charged with animal cruelty after nearly 40 dogs and some cats were removed from their property.

The Spokesman-Review reports deputies arrested Theresa and Thomas Hostetler on Monday on charges of first-degree animal cruelty and confinement of an animal in an unsafe manner.

A neighbor called police about the dogs May 2. According to court documents, deputies had to pepper spray and use a Taser on multiple aggressive dogs.

The remains of several animals were also found on the property.

Their bond had been set at $5,000 and they have since bonded out of Stevens County Jail.
