Yakima County Auditor Charles Ross's office has posted notice of a special meeting for the purpose of recounting by hand the ballots cast in the Aug. 2 Primary Election to determine who will face incumbent David Taylor, R-Moxee, November's General Election.

Taylor leads Republican Dave Kearby and Democrat A.J. Cooper by a comfortable margin, but according to the most recent update from the office of Secretary of State Kim Wyman, Kearby and Cooper are separated by only eight votes of the more than 13,000 cast.

The notice reads as follows:

Notice of Special Meeting
Yakima County Canvassing Board

A special meeting of the Yakima County Canvassing Board, or its duly authorized representatives, will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2016 commencing at 9am for the purpose of conducting a mandatory hand recount of the votes cast for Legislative District 15 Representative, Position 2 that was on the ballot at the preceding Primary held on August 2, 2016.

The meeting will take place at the Yakima County Election Processing Center, Room B-16 in the Yakima County Courthouse; 128 N 2nd Street, Yakima.

The meeting will recess daily at 4pm until reconvening at 9am the following day and will continue until the activity for which the meeting is held has been completed.  The meeting will adjourn with the certification of the amended abstract as required by 29A.64.061 RCW.

Meetings of the Canvassing Board are open, public meetings under 42.30 RCW.
