The Yakima City Council authorized the purchase of four closed Exxon Tiger Marts at Tuesday's council meeting.

The purchase of the properties will allow the city to work with the Department of Ecology and clean up the sites. City manager Tony O'Rourke says, "People have contacted us about these sites. There's plenty of interest but first we want to clean them up"

The cost of the properties; at 56th and Summitview, 24th and Nob Hill, 1808 N. First St. and 16th Street and East Nob Hill will be about $1.1 million. The city does have access to a $350,000 trust fund so the final price will be closer to the actual value of the properties of $731,000.
