Remember all those times you mom nagged you to eat your vegetables?  Turns out she was just trying to keep her baby young!  New research has found that a compound in broccoli, cabbage and avocado can slow the physical signs of aging!

Scientists claim that the substance, known as nicotinamide mononucleotide or NMN, could keep elderly people "younger" and healthier. (I’ll take a heaping helping of that!)  Naturally we turn our potential over to lab mice!  In studies “senior” mice given the compound had reduced signs of physical aging and gave them the metabolism of much younger mice.

But wait, there’s more!  NMN reduced typical signs of aging including skeletal muscle, liver function, bone density, eye function, insulin sensitivity, immune function, body weight and physical activity levels. Sounds a lot like the fountain of youth!  When the compound was given to younger mice it had little affect on them.

The study found that NMN can compensate for loss of energy production during the aging process. Despite all that, I still can’t get with broccoli -BUT- I will give cabbage another chance and I can see forming a relationship avocado.  How about you?  (Mirror
