Cord blood is saving lives in Yakima. That from Cristina Klatovsky the Donation Coordinator for the Inland Northwest Blood Center.

July is National Cord Blood month. Cord blood is taken from the umbilical cord after the mother has given birth.

Klatovsky says the blood is great news for people suffering from diseases like cancer.

Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital is the only hospital in Eastern Washington that has a cord blood program. and Klatovsky says several people in the Yakima Valley are alive Today because they received cord blood transplants.
