Congress is back in session and today 4th District Congressman Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., released the following statement in response to President Obama’s executive actions on gun control:

“Time and again, this president’s unilateral actions have chipped away at limits on executive authority and the lawmaking responsibility that belongs solely to Congress. Circumventing the people’s elected representatives in Congress in order to restrict the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans will do nothing to improve safety. The president may not like it, but Americans’ right to keep and bear arms is protected by the Constitution that he and every lawmaker is sworn to uphold. Today’s unilateral executive actions would not have prevented recent attacks, including those that took place in San Bernardino, where the nation’s strictest gun control laws are already in place. I will continue to oppose any attempt to undermine Americans’ constitutional right to arm and defend themselves or the principle of the separation of powers.”
