It won’t be long as the holidays close in that weight loss challenges will be underway at for friendly neighborhood gym.  Turns out the challenge of competition is a pretty good motivator.  In fact, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania found in that competition is a stronger motivator for exercise than friendly support.

Scientists conducted the study to explore how social media and other tools online affect individual fitness activity and it’s not always a positive. Researchers say people think that when it comes to social media - more is better but the results show when social media is used the wrong way, adding social support to an online health program can backfire and make people less likely to choose healthy behaviors.  (UPI)
