An effort to ensure no young person has to sleep outside or in unsafe conditions due to lack of resources starts in Yakima this afternoon. Josh Jackson Director of Rods House, a drop in resource center for homeless young people in Yakima says The Initiative is called A Way Home Washington and it's an effort using local and state resources to help more homeless youth. Jackson says there are a number of ways you can get involved in the effort but he says "really time is the biggest one. Folks can volunteer. They can help us with data collection. They can volunteer with agencies providing direct service. There's a lot of ways for people to get involved."
The Homeless Network of Yakima County is launching the local Anchor Community Initiative. You can learn more at a meeting this afternoon. The Yakima County Anchor Community Initiative Launch meeting is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Henry Beauchamp Community Center located at 1211 South 7th Street.
Josh says they need your help. He says every year nearly 13,000 young people experience homelessness in Washington State.
