Fulbright Park becomes a Civil War era battle field this weekend as part of Union Gap Old Town Days.

The City of Union Gap celebrates it’s 19th century birth as Yakima City this weekend with the annual Old Town Days celebration. There will be a parade, entertainment, and of course, fantastic food and fun.

This year, Civil War re-enactors will take to the open spaces of Fulbright Park to recreate battles from the war between the states. Sessions will take place both Saturday and Sunday.

Several famous names from the Civil War saw army service in the Yakima Valley. Union General Phillip Sheridan served here during the Yakama Wars in the 1850s. Confederate General Robert S. Garnett built Fort Simcoe.  Union General George McClellan surveyed the Naches Pass area as a possible railroad route.

Here’s something you might find interesting. One of Brian Teegarden’s great great grandfathers Civil War enlistment papers, obtained from the National Archives.
