Yakima city officials have a big decision to make in the near future and that is whether to allow the retail sales of marijuana within Yakima city limits or not.

City Manager Tony O'Rourke says the city will hold a study session on the issue Tuesday at City Hall. He says city leaders know that while marijuana is legal on the state side, it is still illegal under federal law.

O'Rourke tells KIT News that if the city does not allow sales, “We’ll probably be sued by someone who wants access to sales. So yeah we’ll probably be sued in court.”

O'Rourke says the city does not need any more legal challenges. He says 99 percent of all other cities in the state are allowing retail sales as per the passage of Initiative 502.

The study session is set for 10:00 a.m.
