People who have not shoveled the snow from the sidewalk in front of their house or business are especially thankful for the warm temps that melted much of the snow Wednesday.

The city of Yakima is reminding business and home owners that removing snow from sidewalks around your property is your responsibility. In the past 24 hours, the city's code enforcement department has taken charge of regulating the rules.

Joe Caruso, the code administration manager for the city of Yakima says people have until 9:00 a.m. the next morning after a big snow storm hits to clear their sidewalks. For people who choose not to remove it, it will be costly.

"[The fine is] $50 a day everyday we have to return to tell the property owner to remove the snow."

Caruso says they want to make people fully aware that the next time a big snow storm hits, they will be enforcing sidewalk clean up.
