Yakima city officials are knocking on the doors of federal lawmakers this week during the annual lobbying trip to Washington D.C.

Mayor Micah Cawley, City Council members Dave Ettl and Maureen Adkison and Police Chief Dominic Rizzi have joined City Manager Tony O'Rourke on the trip that started Sunday.

O’Rourke says one of the first meetings will be with Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell.

City officials want money for a host of issues including the fight against local gangs, money for development of the former millsite along I-82 and federal funding to help promote the Yakima Airport.

City officials say the annual lobbying trip to Washington D.C. pays off in the millions of dollars the city sees from the federal government each year.
