Yakima city officials are traveling to Olympia Wednesday to lobby for funding and support for projects important to Yakima in the next legislative session.

Mayor Micah Cawley says they will visit, “with people at the Department of Commerce to talk about the public market idea. There are a number of public safety issues we’d like to talk about in light of the upcoming session.”

City officials say past lobbying trips have resulted in millions of dollars in state funding and they are hoping for the same on this trip. Officials are looking for transportation funding and money to help clean up the former mill site property along I-82.

The city group returns on Thursday.
