The City of Yakima officially turned on the city's irrigation system on Wednesday. The system serves over 38,000 people within the city. It becomes operational every year on April 1.  With the recent warning from Governor Jay Inslee's office about drought conditions in certain areas in Washington Yakima City Water and Irrigation Manager Dave Brown explained that they'll have to wait to see the extent of the drought but he says "It's always good to practice good water conservation. Water what you need to water but don't overwater. We don't want water in the street or the sidewalks." Brown says time will tell. He and other officials around the State are hoping for more snow in the next couple of weeks that could further help the State in it's the drought that will no doubt hit counties across Washington this year.
