Yakima city officials are looking for money to make changes to Yakima's Miller Park. The Yakima City Council held a study session on the park Tuesday where they were told work includes replacing and improving lighting at the park that could improve safety. Yakima Police officer Frank Bowersox says the neighborhood needs to take back the park because it's currently in the hands of criminals and others who frequent Miller Park. "More than any other park we had 602 calls there in the last 5 to 6 years. And that's call for service and they range from everything from animal complaints to homicide."
While lighting would improve the park council members also talked about new basketball courts and picnic areas. But since there's no money in the park budget city leaders say they don't know where the money will come from to make the needed changes and repairs. In the end the council voted to send the issue and reports about Miller Park to the Yakima Parks Commission for further review and recommendations.
