With one member absent Monday, the Yakima City Council delayed deciding whether to appeal a federal judge's ruling in a voting-rights case that could force the city to redraw voting districts.

The council gathered Monday morning to discuss their options after the judge last week denied the city's motion for reconsideration in a lawsuit with the American Civil Liberties Union.
But Councilman Dave Ettl was absent, so the council decided to delay a vote on whether to appeal until April 7, the next regular meeting of the City Council.

The city has until April 17 to file an appeal in the case.
