The work continues on the proposed downtown plaza following a community meeting earlier this month. City Economic Development Director Sean Hawkins says he's waiting on the 90 percent cost estimate to present to council members. Some council members have expressed concern about the cost. That estimate says Hawkins will be available at the end of the month or in early April. "At that point I think we could have a real good discussion on how much this thing could potentially cost." Hawkins says currently the total cost is projected at $14 million dollars. Supporters say they'll raise $8.5 million in private money to pay for the plaza. Hawkins says after the estimate is available and presented to the council the council could then vote on the future of the project.
The proposal is to build a large town square for events in the downtown area.
