City Council Votes to Ban Marijuana, Move Forward on Downtown


The Yakima City Council approved an action plan that helps the city as it pushes the Downtown Master Plan Tuesday.

The action plan includes the creation of retail and implementation committees and design work for the downtown plaza. Costs for the action plan are included in the 2014 budget.

The council also approved a resolution placing a ban on the sale of legalized marijuana in the city of Yakima. City Council members voted 4-3 for the ban that city staff will now create in a draft resolution to be considered by the city on a later date.

The next council meeting will occur on Dec. 3 where the council will continue to discuss the 2014 budget among other topics.
